Charlie played drums and orchestral percussion from the age of 9 for just under 7 years before focusing on drum kit, and then attending the Guildhall Juniors department for a year and a half specialising in jazz drums. His playing mainly revolved around funk, big band and other groove based music before being introduced to small band jazz, where he continues to develop his playing. He was selected to be on the National Youth Jazz Collective Summer School in 2013 and 2014, before gaining a place to study at the Birmingham Conservatoire starting 2014/2015. Here he received tuition from the likes of Percy Pursglove, Andrew Bain, Clark Tracey, Jeff Williams, Hans Koller and many more. Charlie was a finalist in the 2012 Young Drummer of the Year competition before winning the Tony Levin Drum Prize in 2016, and is now the Yamaha drum teacher at Yamaha UK Music Point in Milton Keynes.
